Host: Nate
General: Tops on my list is time with my wife and kids; my favorite people. I love bodyboarding, running, reading and “Starbucking” at the beach! I am grateful for and passionate about God’s loving acceptance and correction of humanity to its eventual full salvation through the perfect work of Jesus.
Music: Stevie Wonder (’70′s stuff), Lauryn Hill, James Morrison (not the Doors guy), Kirk Franklin, B.B. King, Fred Hammond, Commissioned, David Sanborn (jazz), Brian Bromberg (baddest fusion jazz bass player ever), P.O.D., Mars Ill (rap), 4th Avenue Jones, and Richard Smallwood
Movies: The Passion, 300, Equilibrium, The Matrix (first one), Inception, The King’s Speech, Gladiator, Jason Bourne (mostly 1st one), The Godfather 1 and 2, Young Frankenstein, MONTY PYTHON/HOLY GRAIL, Napoleon Dynamite, NACHO LIBRE, Batman Begins
Books: Bible, anything by Watchman Nee, Henry Nouwen, Velvet Elvis, The Lost Message of Jesus Christ (very good and NOT religious fluff), and the one I haven’t written yet…
Most Admire: Jesus (our loving brother, a virtuous revolutionary, and the all-sufficient Savior of humanity), My wife Marbella (the epitome of diligence), My Grandfathers (one was an adventurer, the other an anchor), My Parents (always give their best), Mark and Cathy Eaton (provocateurs of good works and deep considerations), T.D. Jakes (the most gifted preacher of our era), and Batman (selfless, thankless, fearless)
Activities: Fart-around-family-time , Writing, Teaching, Reading, Seeing peoples’ mugs illuminated by the unveiling of God’s love for them, Bodyboarding, Running, Playing Kill Zone on PS3
Deeper: I’m now recovering my regular-type-person status and becoming an enjoyer (yup, I just made up a word) of God’s active and real love. At times I struggle with some aspects of my upbringing, but am learning to cherish it as part of my formation. Previously, I thought it was my calling to somehow reform religion. Now, I realize that it’s much better for God to just reform me.
All that I hope to do is to initiate a time of consideration in hearts of those who believe that they are still encumbered with the task of making God to like them. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. (1 John 4:10 KJV)
Enyways, that’s more than enough about me. I hope you will visit often. Even better, I hope you will engage with me as I percolate some crazy cups of conversation.
